Nelson Mandela Leadership Award - 2023

The $1.9 million international research grant funded in 2016 by the Government of Assam, India,  has resulted in the establishment of the Smart Villages research program at the University of Melbourne.  Since then the project leader, A/Prof Hemanta Doloi has been developing this fairly new area of research in the Smart Villages Lab (SVL)  within the Faculty of Architecture, Building and Planning, which has now started impacting globally. The following award"Nelson Mandela Leadership Award" is clearly a vindication of his hard work and extraordinary vision for leading the trans-disciplinary research and building a collective new capacity targeting "THE 40% RURAL COMMUNITY" globally, seeking solutions in his Sustainable Planet Initiative (SPI) mission.

Hemanta Doloi has been selected as a winner of one of the most prestigious international awards “Nelson Mandela Leadership Award - 2023” by the Non-Resident Indian (NRI) Welfare Society of India. This award is bestowed on him in recognition of his effort for improving Rural Communities through the unique Smart Villages research at the University of Melbourne. This is truly an international honour and recognition of his outstanding services, contributions and achievements in this important area of research and development. The award was presented at the “Global Peace Summit”  held at the University of Oxford, England on 27 September 2023.

Since then, Hemanta has been profiled in various media including the Assam Flash on “Facebook” (or Youtube) with a wide coverage around the globe.
